Top Kit vs. Bottom Kit

Top Kit

You'll want a Top Kit if:

There is less than 1.5 inches (38mm) of clearance between the tank and the throttle housing at full right turn.

There's a heated grip wire that comes out of the bottom half of your rubber grip flange.

Bottom Kit

You'll want a Bottom Kit if:

There's a heated grip wire that comes out the top half of your rubber grip flange.

There are no other interferences. The majority of motorcycles will be able to use the Bottom Kit.

Steps to determine fitment

Step 1: Check for adequate spacing for the ATLAS between the throttle housing and the grip flange.

All you need is a gap of 2.5 mm or greater between the grip and the throttle housing. That's roughly 3 thick bank cards wide. If you need more space than this, you can most likely pull back your grip flange to gain the room needed. Please play the video under the section "Will it for your motorcycle" and scroll to 33 seconds. This will show you how to pull the grip flange back.

Friction Pads

Everything you need to know about using the friction pads with the ATLAS Throttle Lock.

Friction Pads are required.

The ATLAS Throttle Lock was designed to be used with friction pads. Friction pads can last 60,000 miles or more as long as you choose the right pad for your bike. You will also preserve your pad by avoiding any contact with your throttle housing’s sharp seam. This is explained in our installation instructions.

Which friction pad should you use?

The friction pads come in 4 different thicknesses. You will only need to apply one pad to your ATLAS. Watch our installation videos and follow the instructions to determine which friction pad works best.

Are the friction pads adjustable?

Yes, they are! The pegs at the end of the friction pads have 2 equally spaced notches which can be cut off to move the friction pad away from the throttle housing’s curved ridge. This is explained in our installation instructions.

This cruise control is perfect for riding, easy to setup and use. You still have total control of throttle. I love mine , I have arthritis so it keeps me going without hand fatigue. Great product.

Atlas Throttle Lock review

Honestly, I expected the Atlas Throttle Lock to work better than it has out of the box. I installed it on my 2013 Moto Guzzi Griso. Unfortunately, even on a level riding surface, I found that, when engaged, the throttle lock allowed the speed to decrease or increase pretty quickly - too quickly for me to be comfortable with. However, as someone suggested on the web, I applied grip tape to the throttle housing, which significantly reduced the slippage - enough so that I'm now satisfied with the product.

Grip tape should not be needed and we have never had to use it ourselves in any install. More important is to make sure the throttle housing is clean and free of debris or residues that might hamper the friction pad, and also that the ATLAS is installed properly and is firm on the tube. Worth noting the ATLAS cannot make you accelerate. It is a mechanical device, so if you are experiencing acceleration, you are either not on a flat surface or your throttle is cracked open just a bit too much. Does exactly as advertized, solidly built very good quality.
Only reason it's not 5 star is that I had to modify my throttle grip ( remove chrome ring)

Glad you're enjoying it, Chris! Yours is the first we've seen of that grip type where the chrome flange actually had to come off for the ATLAS to fit! Most of these with that grip shouldn't require it. Regardless, glad the install went through and you're able to get out there and ride! Thanks!

Awesome product.

You can easily over come the throttle locks friction hold for emergancy stopping it’s easy to put on and works amazing, I’m so happy to have a true cruise control now my throttle hand can truly take a break, I will say my first kit I broke due to being a bit rough with the install, luckily the company sent me a brand new no hassle free of charge !! My advice to you is be gentle with the kit and take your time installing it and reading all the instructions. The company is amazing and super quick with there responses would highly reccomend this product to everyone with a motorcycle.

Everything from delivery to operation was great little taken a back by the amount of work needed to install. With all the different pieces that need to be cut and fitted. If you’re ordering for a specific model bike, it should come preset for you. All you should have to do is Attach it to the throttle.

We would love to be able to set up each ATLAS so that it arrives for you with the correct friction pad set up and ready to go, however this is unfortunately not possible due to the logistics of having each and every order customized by hand, and also because two models of the same motorcycle may not have the same grips (or even different spacing between the grips on two bikes of the same model with the same grips in many cases!), and therefore may necessitate different friction pads being used. A #2 friction pad may fit your bike, but another bike of the exact same year/model/grips may need a #3, for example, depending on the tolerances from factory. If we could set up each ATLAS kit so all yu have to do is pop it on, we certainly would! Thanks again for your review and feedback, and happy riding!

KTM 390 Adventure Upgrade

I installed the top mount throttle lock and am beyond pleased with it from ease of install to performance and beyond. Atlas has a great product that works as advertised…Throttle lock holds throttle in position solidly, so much that use in traffic can be sketchy if not released quickly. Will buy this setup for all my machines that don’t have electronic cruise from the factory!

Took a little bit of adjusting but love it

Took me a little while to get it set exactly how I like it but now that’s it’s set up it’s great works perfect.

One of the best additions

I love these throttle locks. I learned about them through Adventure Rider Radio and it’s everything they describe. Easy to install, high quality, and easy to use. I had one on a KTM 1190 and the sticker that created friction came loose. I emailed the company and quickly got a response. Turns out they upgraded to a different adjustable part and it works better than before. I liked it so much I got a second throttle lock for my sport touring bike.
